Partial Dentures in Oakville

If your smile is marred by just a few missing teeth, Burloak Denture Clinic can complete your smile with partial dentures in Oakville. Partial dentures are perfect for patients who are only missing some of their teeth on the top or bottom jaw. They will allow you to chew more naturally and speak with ease. Partial dentures are used with your remaining natural teeth and are custom-made to perfectly fit your mouth.

At Burloak Denture Clinic, our denturists personally make your set of dentures, whether full or partial. We accept all types of dental insurance for our services.

Types of Partial Dentures

There are three materials that are used to make partial dentures: acrylic, cobalt chrome and Valpast®.

  • Acrylic removable partial dentures set replacement teeth into a pink, gum-coloured acrylic base that is rather thick and bulky to minimize breakage risks. Acrylic dentures are attached to your natural teeth with metal clasps which can be visible while smiling or talking. People are able to speak and eat normally with acrylic dentures, but they can be aggravating due to their size. They are often considered a temporary solution before a more permanent set of dentures can be created.
  • Cobalt chrome partial dentures consist of high-quality replacement teeth on a rigid metal frame. They have a metal base plate as the framework that sits around your remaining teeth. Your replacement teeth will be attached to the base using acrylic. These metal dentures are more stable than other types of dentures and have a great grip on your gums. They are smaller than acrylic dentures and offer a great chewing experience.
  • Valpast® partial dentures are flexible dentures made of nylon resin. These dentures are comfortable and look highly realistic. They contain replacement teeth that are attached to thin, gum-coloured clasps that fit into the spaces around your remaining teeth. The flexible material acts as a stress-breaker that provides a balanced stress distribution with each bite. Because of this distribution, Valpast® partial dentures can last longer than other types and require less frequent relines and adjustments.

All three types of partial dentures will fill any gaps where you have lost teeth and help prevent your other teeth from changing position. Consult your denturist to see which type will fit best with your budget and lifestyle.

Comfort & Recovery Time

Making our cosmetic partial dentures will take about two to four weeks, but this time period will vary from one patient to another. After your partial dentures are placed, it may take a few more weeks to get used to them and get comfortable wearing them. To ease this process, be sure to wear your partial dentures as much as possible. If pain or discomfort persists, you can call Burloak Denture Clinic for relines and repairs. Partial dentures are easily adjusted at our clinic or at your residence during emergencies. Do not adjust your dentures yourself, as this can lead to extensive damage or the need for new partial dentures.

Eating with Partial Dentures

Because partial dentures are removable, they can move around, chip or get items stuck in them easily. We recommend avoiding certain foods to help keep your partial dentures intact and in place. Foods to avoid include:

  • Stick foods such as toffees and chocolates
  • Chewy foods such as steak
  • Hard foods such as nuts, raw carrots and hard candies
